Go Canucks Go {Sports Jersey Birthday Cake}

There’s just too much anticipation in this house at the moment for me to bear!

RobbieD’s hockey team is finally through to the Stanley Cup finals.

I should clarify – ‘hockey’ to Canadians by default means Ice Hockey, none of this namby pamby running around a field hockey. I’m talking swishy, graceful skaters, who turn around and kick the crap out of each other.

Happy Birthday RobbieD!

So a Canucks Jersey cake was absolutely necessary this year for RobbieD’s birthday. Though, he tells me that apparently the number 33 is already taken… Continue reading Go Canucks Go {Sports Jersey Birthday Cake}

Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea {Tiny Teacup Brownie Cupcakes}

I think things are going to get very quiet around here – I’m now back at work part-time and there are a few other things going on that are making it near impossible to have time to think, let alone write.

One of the nice things about being back at work is all the time for morning teas. Especially when they are morning teas that mean something.

Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea is definitely one of those fundraisers that is all too easy to get behind.

Here was my humble contribution to the day, using my One-Bowl Raspberry Brownies Recipe in cupcake form.

Long Long Weekend Scones {Pumpkin Rosemary Wholemeal Scones with Olive Oil Butter}

It’s always a strange thing celebrating Easter in Australia, well any holiday for that matter, when everything associated with that holiday is so wholly at odds with the weather. While I love an adorable little hatching chicken, or bouquet of yellow spring flowers as much as the next girl, they are a bit in short supply here at the moment. Instead I’m scratching around trying to remember where I stashed my ugh boots at the end of last winter, and trying to convince RobbieD that 20 degrees celsius really is cold enough to justify running the heater all night long (or sneakily turning it off before he comes into the room. I wish that our heater had a ‘boss’ key).

Easter always reminds me of freshly baked scones, the weather is just cooling down enough here, I can remember my mum making them, as people always seemed to just ‘pop around for an afternoon cup of tea’ at this time of year. If we were particularly lucky she would have prepped another batch for us, and put them in to bake to be ready for my sister and I as soon as we walked in the door from school.

Seeing as ANZAC Day fell on the Easter weekend this year, it seemed only fitting to make pumpkin rosemary scones.

They turned out a treat, but they really are just a brilliant excuse to eat loads and loads of Olive Oil Butter. Continue reading Long Long Weekend Scones {Pumpkin Rosemary Wholemeal Scones with Olive Oil Butter}

Happy Easter {Yellow blossom Christening cake}

I’ll be cuddling up with scones, and doonas and lugging firewood. If you would like to be inspired by something a little more traditionally ‘Eastery’, then here is a Christening cake that I did for a friend’s daughter recently:

February {Violet cupakes}

Is it completely indulgent to make your own birthday cake? Well, it wasn’t just for me, I did ostensibly make it for friend whose birthday is the same week.

Happy Valentine’s Day {Cherry Delight cupcakes}

Hope you’re spoiling yourself or someone special today.

Here are some lovely Cherry Delight cupcakes that I made for a friend last month.

I can’t decide which photo I like more:

or the overhead view where you can see the cute cherry hearts a little bit better… Continue reading Happy Valentine’s Day {Cherry Delight cupcakes}

Off to pastry chef school!

Do you have family traditions that no matter how old you get, you still feel like you need to do?

We have two in my family.

One is getting measured on the ‘measuring pole’ at my grandparents’ house when we go to visit. Despite the fact that I haven’t grown in the last 10-odd years I still feel compelled to go and check myself on the ‘measuring pole’ and compare myself with all the other family members marked on it. It’s quite an epic pole with grandparents (2), kids (5), grandkids (16), and great grandkids (3), as well as a range of partners over the last 20 years.

The second is getting your photograph taken on the front steps at my parents house on the first day of school – Kindy, primary school, high school, even begrudgingly for university. It’s one of those traditions that as a kid you hate doing, but looking back on all our photos, I’m so glad that we did it.

Today, I added a new photo to the collection — me, dressed in full uniform, heading off to TAFE for the first day of Patisserie classes.

Yup, that’s right, I’m taking this whole procrastibaking thing to the next level and calling in the big guns to help me out. Continue reading Off to pastry chef school!

New Year, New Baby

No, not for me. One’s quite enough at the moment.

I had a lovely time putting together a baby shower for my L’il Sis for her second bubby boy.

However, I had a miserable attempt at doing a small ruffle cake:

Welcome to 2011

Wow, as always – what the hell happened to the year? Oh yeah, we had a baby. I guess from now on the concept of time is completely liquid and nothing will ever get done.

Always the optimist, I’m setting myself one very simple new years resolution:

To not waste food

it’s actually quite embarassing the amount of fresh . . . → Read More: Welcome to 2011

Merry Christmas {Chocolate Pecan Pie}

Merry Christmas everyone! Hope you’re all having a lovely time with your families. We’ve been having a lovely time for Buttercup’s first Christmas – swimming, laughing, overeating and catching up with family.

This was Boxing Day dessert – chocolate pecan pie. It was beautiful, but RobbieD reckons it wasn’t anything like a normal pecan pie. . . . → Read More: Merry Christmas {Chocolate Pecan Pie}
